Substance Use Service
Substance Use Disorder
Addiction can be a vicious cycle and can spiral into a lonely and alienating time. The root of an addiction varies from person to person, but the journey towards a better path is possible when you have support around you.
Substance Abuse counselors provide treatment and support to help clients recover from addiction or modify problem behaviors. Many counselors incorporate the principles of 12-step programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). They educate clients how to cope with stress and life’s issues in ways that help them recover. Counselors also help patients improve their personal relationships and find ways to discuss their addiction or other problems with family and friends.
Your personal history and circumstances make your addiction unique to you. This service is tailored for you and your addiction, and focuses on educating you and making you strong enough – in mind and body – to be well. We will be with you every step of the way, motivating you and helping you to see that you are never alone in this tough journey.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) regulation 49 CFR Part 40 defines the Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) as a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.
Barbara Konadu-Ford is a Qualified DOT Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) who provides SAP evaluations to heavy equipment operators, FMCSA DOT truck drivers, pilots, the pipeline industry, and Hazard Material employees.
The SAP’s fundamental responsibility is to provide a comprehensive face-to-face assessment and clinical evaluation to determine what level of assistance the employee needs in resolving problems associated with alcohol use or prohibited drug use. The SAP then recommends a course of education and/or treatment with which the employee must demonstrate successful compliance prior to returning to DOT safety-sensitive duty. Treatment recommendations can include but are not limited to; In-patient treatment, partial in-patient treatment, out-patient treatment, education programs, and aftercare.
